What a load cell does
A load cell converts force into an electrical signal. In a weighing scale, that signal is interpreted by an indicator and displayed as weight. The correct load cell depends on how the load is applied and what structure supports it.

Single point load cells suit small platforms and counting scales. Shear beam and bending beam cells are common in industrial platforms, tanks and hoppers. Compression and canister load cells suit heavy vertical loads. S-type cells measure tension or compression in suspended systems.
